Forensic scientists use measurements of hair taken from murder victims to help determine if a suspect is telling them truthfully. Here’s how they go about it: They take twelve measurements—the same twelve used to measure other body parts—and use those numbers to create a standard database, which allows them to match crime-scene hairs with a suspect’s hair if they find one that matches up well.
